Saturday June 8 -We ate breakfast at the hotel. There was a sign that said eggs to order so I was like great I can get some eggs. But the guy working the buffet did not understand what I was saying so after a few failed attempts I stuck with the food that was on the buffet. I had chocolate flakes cereal, some sort of bread/pita and a rice mixture. I had orange juice and I discovered that it isn't that bad but I do not like pulp. We then headed to the lab. Today was our first day getting there by ourselves and we made it there with little delays. We walked to the bus stop that is closest to the hotel and hopped on the bus and only got off one stop too far. We were supposed to meet Professor Krishinan at the lab at eleven and when we arrived at the lab around 11:30 he was still not ready to meet with us so good thing we didnt get there on time.
We got another lab tour because half of our group was just seeing the lab for the first time. In the third room we were shown I got very light headed and felt like I was going to faint. So I told Caroline and we went to sit down in the lobby. I think that it was from lack of food because I made sure to drink more water today and at that point in the day I had already drank almost a full liter. I ate the fiber one bar that I had with me and drank more water while i relaxed in the lobby. After I bit I felt better but still not 100%.
Once the tour was over and I was feeling better we were off to the mall. We had directions to the mall as follows "Go to the other gate, turn right and the mall is after the first intersection". So after debating which road led to the other gate we were off. We did ask someone about two blocks out if we were going the right direction and he steered us in the right direction. The mall was very big. It included a food court, outdoor stage, movie theatre and four stories of stores and lots and lots of people. We headed to the food court first because we were hungry. I got a bulls eye aapaam which was a fried egg in a bread bowl but a crepe bowl. It was really good and not spicy.
Caroline and I then headed out to find some light weight Indian clothes. We walked through a handful of stores to get an idea of price range and style. The first store we were in we were looking around and the sales person walked right up to me a stood not even a foot away from me. She didn't say anything to me just stood there and when I looked at her she made eye contact with me. It made me feel very uncomfortable. After looking at a couple stores we decided on one where the women spoke to us. Thinking that she would be helpful and she was. We tried on many different tunics and a couple style pants. It turns out that Indian women have small calves because the pants were big around my waist and thighs and super tight to my calves. I blame it on playing sports. Nonetheless we both bought an outfit consisting of pants, tunic and a scarf. We are planning on wearing them to the lab on monday. We still wont blend in but we will feel more comfortable hopefully.
On the way home from the mall we stopped at the grocery store. I got nutella and crackers! After dropping our purchases off at the hotel we headed back to campus for a movie. We grabbed dinner at the cafeteria on campus and went to the movie. We sat in the gallery so it was like cement steps that we sat on. It was fun to be outside at a movie and people cheered during the movie.
Tomorrow we are planning on renting a Taxi and finding a beach to hopefully swim at. We will see how successful we are and how much sunblock we will apply to prevent getting sunburned.
I hope all is well at whereever you are and you are having a fabulous weekend!
